"Just a sec you have a feather in your hair"

About 6 months ago my nieces told me their mom had put feathers in her hair. I couldn't picture it . Then I ran into a girl at the dog park whom had a black and blue feather the width of a pencil in her hair. It looked good. It looked interesting, and made me want to go and get my own. When I started thinking about the need or idea to put these feathers into my hair I thought of why? It's cool. It's tribal. Maybe it's  cell memory in our cave woman years, when we dolled up for a Neanderthal. Who would ever guess. I'm not sure where this trend began, I'll  have to find out, it wants just stories. Later in the tday when we went to the vet, sure enough one of the young sweeties that works at the vet, had her own hair color feathers. They were beautiful in her long blondie hair. She said when she had first gone to get them, the store didn't  have as much selection. Now they have more so she wants more. Both fashioners were babies, there is no age. The women with the white feathers is as lovely as the others. I am going to get some, dark I have dark brown reddish hair. So, red, for sure. Maybe violet.
The Chickens whom produce these feathers are in high demand. Out of respect for the chicken, the owner does not eat the chicken. OK. There is a shortage of these feathers because of the new "trend."
It does make me feel tribal, a strong, knowning, smart, part of the fashion pack. Like big shoulders in jackets, hats, anything that makes you stick out, it gets you noticed. It is a sign I am different contrary to the tribal feel that is never stated. Do women like women? Can we be a tribe? Without who has the better wardrobe.

Prada Spring/Summer 2011 shoe collection

The Road to go the shoes to wear

I see the new Prada Spring/Summer shoe collection and go a little crazy. Which one pair don't I want. I love checkers, patterns, mixing, color just pure unbelievable shoes. I see those patterns in my sleep but have a shoe wedge with a print. Ouch Ouch Ouch. These are beautiful and functional, make a white dress dreamy with the accent of oddity. I would kill myself with the height, at 6ft. However just to look at them would be fine as well. I know there are people to help style and put fabrics, patterns, that sort of thing in front but these creations are the product of seeing the future with a lushness history of our past.

Trying new things

It's easy to get behind in my reading during fashion month. Recently I found myself staying up all night until 7am, reading about fashion, catching up on Style Bubble. Style Bubble is one of my favorite blogs.  She puts outfits together that make sense and have balance. In one post, she was wearing a monochromatic blue ensemble and on her feet were thick cashmere socks from Topshop and these amazing otherworldly shoes from Heavy Machine.

"The brand Heavy Machine was established by Sunshine Co. Ltd, to fulfill the dream of a new generation; founded in 1989 located in Taipei, Taiwan. For the past 20 years Sunshine Co. Ltd has been designing clothes for men and women, and in 2007 they decided to expand their business into shoe design, creating the new label, ‘Heavy Machine’." They saw something missing in the shoe market and now are sold all over the world. When I started becoming interested in shoes, my vision of what shoes should look like was limited by brands like Prada, Gucci, and Calvin Klein. I wasn't looking around. Then I saw one of the Olsen Twins wearing Balenciaga boots and something changed in me.

"Balenciaga is now owned by the Gucci Group (part of PPR), and its womenswear and menswear is headed by Nicolas Ghesquière.[7]Jean-Paul Gaultier and Agnes B. The hip, fresh interpretation of Balenciaga classics, such as the semifitted jacket and the sack dress, caught the attention of the media as well as such celebrities as Madonna and Sinéad O'Connor.[6]" Ghesquière, like Balenciaga, is a self-taught designer, and apprenticed to

After Balenciaga, I was exposed to Ld Tuttle, a shoe designer who has a heel and a form she plays with in each of her collections. The one directly above with the light blue material is my favorite. I can't remember it's name and it's long worn off. It was sold at Urban Outfitters last summer and I spied them being worn by Whitney Port on the tv show "the City" also. Not to mention the numerous little starlets caught sporting them in the tabs. They were a bargain too! This last shoe is from Ld Tuttle's new collection; it reminds me a little of Prada's collection with the satin pink fabric:

Probably because of the wedge heel. Oh Well I love shoes, so here are a couple more Heavy Machine Beauties:

Irony in fashion

Ricky Powell 7

I have never been a label freak. In fact when there is one I try to take it off. I don't know why, I just don't like labels or logo's on my purchased clothing. However when I saw this picture at Trend hunter under Funky town Photo's I changed my mind. The car is obviously an old one and the painting of VL with her little stars is hilarious. So many of us, me included, grew up wanting things, me clothes, and not being able to afford them. So you get a car, a not so nice car and label it literally. Classy, trashy, and kind of genius in making it a statement of sorts about what is important and been classy and having class or living in high class. It could go on forever.

Carolina Herrera Dress of the Season Oh big ouch I want it, it looks like a painting

Stop. I can not keep the information straight. I have gone from Spring 2011 to Pre-Fall 2011.
I looked at Proenza Schouler 's Pre-Fall show yesterday. Thinking about their very well received Blues, Yellows and Greens in innovative fabrics to make sleek, body hugging amazing dresses. The PS1 purse, the PS2 sophmore handbag, I say no more. I love where they are taking their story. Their woman have very exciting lives, and the clothings respond to your need at the down of a hat grab and go. They never disappoint with their textile work and knits. I love the jacket this fall that looks jumpled together. Cheers to them. http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshows/2011/fall/main/newyork/womenrunway/proenzaschouler/#slide16&ss1

Researching Color & how it is in the fashion world

I am a person who pays attention to detail. When I see people in bright colors I wonder what made them buy that coat, why that color, and if it was a brand thing. This week I ran into some good color at the dog park. Jean, a woman from Liverpool England had on a Puff coat in a daffodil yellow with a gold crossover purse. She looked bright, cheery and a lovely person.

Here is the bright lovely Jean in her coat with gold crossover bag, she bought it because it was bright and an uplifting color.

Soon this gentleman walked by and I stopped and asked to take a picture of his coat and why he bought it. It keeps him warm and he likes the color
Kaycee had just received this jacket in honeysuckle pink for a family member and they had this right. Honeysuckle pink, the color of the year. She looked super cute in this
color. (I am think most would with the brighting qualities to the light around you. Bright colors reflect off skin tone and voila you are wearing a little blush,

After the gentleman in the coat had walked by this guy walked by and Jean was floored, here was the exact same color within a couple of minutes.

How Does Honeysuckle Become the "Color of the Year"

I came across an article naming the color of the year. Last year it was turquoise and who really knew? I have seen some other blogs talking about Honeysuckle and it's a pink really.
